Michelin Considering $100 Million Investment at Fort Wayne BFGoodrich Tire Plant

Michelin North America’s BFGoodrich brand is looking to invest $100 million into its Woodburn, Ind., plant near Fort Wayne, to upgrade the facility’s equipment and production, local media reports.

A filing with Allen County government, showed the breakdown of the $100 million investment, which includes:

  • $20 million to upgrade equipment
  • $23.5 million to improve production and efficiency
  • $18.5 million to improve quality verification
  • $38 million to upgrade tooling and molds.

The filing also indicated that the investment would not create any additional jobs to the roughly 1,600 jobs at the plant.

The tiremaker told Tire Review, the investment is still being considered and is not finalized.

“Michelin is considering a potential investment in its BFGoodrich Fort Wayne plant over the next five years. This prospective investment would support Michelin’s ambition to grow the BFGoodrich brand in the U.S. and around the world. At this time, no final decisions have been made,” Michelin said in a statement.

According to local media, the Allen County Council will consider tax relief related to Michelin’s plans.

Michelin previously $50 million to upgrade equipment and expand production capacity at the facility in 2011, and in 2008, invested about $53 million in new equipment and jobs.
