Update: ITC Finalizes Antidumping, Countervailing Duties

On July 14, the U.S. International Trade Commission made its final determination in its antidumping and countervailing duty investigations on the import of Chinese made passenger and light truck tires. The commission found that the U.S. tire industry is materially injured by the imports of these tires.

This determination upholds previous determinations by the Department of Commerce. On June 12, the DOC announced its final determinations in the investigation and set antidumping and countervailing duties on Chinese imported tires.

This final determination by the ITC comes two weeks earlier than the anticipated ruling date of July 27.

The full report by the ITC will be available Aug. 24, 2015 and will be available on the commission’s website here.

The USW, which originally filed a claim against the Chinese made tires in June 2014,  is pleased with the outcome.

“We applaud the ITC for their decision in issuing an affirmative final determination for tariffs on Chinese tires being illegally dumped and subsidized into the U.S. market.  The outcome in the USW’s pursuit of this case will not only help protect USW members and their families but also helps protect the jobs and futures of the tens of thousands of workers employed within the U.S. tire industry,” said Leo W. Gerard, USW international president, in a statement.
