Australian Bandag Facility Gets Solar System

Bridgestone’s Australia subsidiary Bandag Manufacturing Pty Ltd. in Wacol, Australia, will utilize sunshine to power its operation, according to Tyres & Accessories.

The retread plant is installing two 100 kilowatt solar power systems: one on the factory’s roofing, the other at Quality Tyre Sales, its onsite retail business. The system will not only reduce Bandag’s energy costs but will help the business become more carbon neutral.

“At Bridgestone, we take our responsibilities very seriously and are extremely conscious of how our operations affect the environment,” said Andrew Moffatt, Bridgestone Australia managing director. “Tire retreading is a highly efficient form of recycling in itself, but we every day we strive to ensure our commitment to the environment doesn’t end with our products. This solar panel project is a significant step forward in our quest to lower our impact and will save an estimated 220.8 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.”

Bandag is the number one tire retreading brand in Australasia, and the Wacol facility retreads more than 550,000 truck tire casings every year.
