Trelleborg launches a new solution to help users know when a forklift tire is worn out.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems launched a new solution – its Pit Stop Line – that allows users to know when a forklift tire is worn out and needs replacing.
“Tires are often replaced with up to 25% of their life remaining simply because people are unaware that tread depth has nothing to do with the life of a solid tire,” said Jean-Paul Mindermann, Trellborg business unit president.
This misconception creates a large amount of waste as well as costs companies thousands of dollars a year in downtime, he said.
The Pit Stop Line, which will be available in North America by the third quarter this year, is an orange line embedded into the tire. This indicator is visible on the tire wall and is designed to reveal itself across the surface of the tire when the rubber has reached the end of its lifetime, the tiremaker said.
The line allows users to use 25% more of their tires as well as plan changes in advance, eradicating downtime, Trelleborg said.
“With the help of Trelleborg’s latest breakthrough, users can be alerted when the tire has around 100 hours of life left, so that they can plan the replacement and eliminate those unnecessary costs,” Mindermann said.
