Sice/Auto 4: New Concept Tyre Changer

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Auto 4 and Sice have announced the launch of the S450 Super-Automatic tyre changer, which they describe as "a new radical development in tyre changer design and operation."

The S450 has been designed to solve the increasingly acute and difficult problems encountered when handling the latest tyre developments in larger, low profile and run-flat tyre and rim assemblies. The tyre changer has electro-hydraulic systems, which provides the tyre technician with powerful operating procedures together with complete control, ensuring that the most difficult tyres can be removed and fitted without damage.

Wheel and tyre assemblies are mounted vertically on the machine and are positioned to the exact fitting height by use of a computer controlled wheel lifter, thus ensuring operator safety when working with the heaviest of assemblies. Breaking the tyre beads is achieved by two powerful, hydraulically operated discs. The smooth hydraulic operation ensures the complete control necessary when working with run-flat assemblies fitted with pressure monitoring systems.

Fingertip controls ensure smooth yet powerful, hydraulic operation of the automatic, computer controlled tyre fitting and mounting cycles. Optional accessories are available for the Michelin PAX and Continental CSR systems.

The Auto 4/Sice tyre changer range is extensive from a low cost semi-automatic to the largest Earth Mover model. Models are available to suit not only the operator needs but also the operator’s preference, whether pivoting back post or rocking back post.

Latest addition to the range is the S436 Super automatic tyre changer; the S436 has a variable height turntable to cater for those extra wide rims. As the operator is able to lower the turntable height, the top rim remains at a comfortable and practical working height. The bead breaker has adjustable tyre rest to maintain the correct angle whilst working with varying widths and diameters.

Available for all models are many accessories and options, resulting in a tyre changer tailor made for the operator’s needs. There are simple alloy wheel protection kits, through the jaw inflation systems or the PTX tyre bead press. The PTX tyre press can be fitted to handle the low profile and run-flat tyre and rim, ensuring that tyre fitting remains a one-man job.

In the Sice range of commercial tyre changers there are now six models to choose from, with machines able to handle rims from 14 to 56 inches in diameter, with rim widths of up to 1,500 mm.

The S520 is latest development in commercial tyre changers; compact and low cost, this model can be used in the smaller workshop where before cost and space made the installation of a truck tyre changer impossible. The S520 is available for single phase, three phase and 24-volt electrical supply.

Hydraulically operated, these machines are able to break the toughest of beads safely, without damage to the rim, tyre or operator. Suitable for tubeless or tubed type rims, with or without locking rings. All machines are fitted with water filters, regulators and lubricators as standard and of course comply with the latest C.E. regulations regarding operator health and safety.

Wheel Balancing
All balancers in the Auto 4/Sice range are single spin, low speed and microprocessor based, featuring alloy wheel, static and dynamic, optimising and motorcycle programs. Self-calibration is standard on all models, easily performed using a standard wheel and tyre

Machines are available for all needs, from the low priced, hand spin model for mobile use or the smaller workshop to the more sophisticated models, with digital readout or high-resolution LCD monitors, be it for passenger car or heavy commercial wheels.

All models are simple to use, with most models have automatic data entry whether for standard balancing or weight placement positioning when balancing alloy rims.

The motorised models are now fitted with the latest space saving wheel guard. This greatly reduces the amount of floor space required which is a benefit in any workshop.

Sice balancers clearly illustrate the latest developments in wheel balancer technology. The introduction of lead-free balance weights and the corresponding increase in cost, means that developments such as the weight placement system for alloy wheels assumes a greater importance, if weight wastage is to be avoided.

Precise positioning of the adhesive weights is achieved by use of a wheel weight application gauge, ensuring accurate positioning of the weights and reducing the possibility of operator error to a minimum. A weight placement program is standard on all passenger car balancers.

It is possible to further reduce the amount of weight required by matching the tyre and rim by use of the optimising program, which is standard feature on all Sice models.

All passenger car balancers are supplied with front and rear cone wheel mounting kits as standard. There is a complete range of specialist adaptors and accessories available which includes adaptors for closed centre wheels, twin wheel van type rims, offroad vehicles and motorcycles.

Truck Wheel Balancers
There are two models available for the commercial tyre specialist. The S680E motorised wheel balancer and S680 manual spin version, meets the need for an accurate yet fast machine that is simple to use.

Mounting the wheel is simple, by using the air operated wheel lift, one man can mount the heaviest of wheel and tyre assemblies. The spin cycle is fast – only 17 seconds for a truck wheel and 6 seconds for a car rim. The wheel is stopped by use of a powerful air operated brake after which the imbalance is indicated on twin digital displays. Balancing programs include Alloy Wheel, Dynamic, Static and Self Calibration. A 12-volt power kit is also offered, making the S680 a truly a portable machine.
