Nexen Tire Corp. announced it has won the “Red Dot Design Award 2012,” which the tiremaker said is one of the top three design awards worldwide, for its N9000 tire’s tread pattern.
“This is a great achievement for design management as it comes after the IF Design Award 2010 and Good Design Award 2011,” said Lee Hyun Bong, CEO of Nexen Tire.
The Red Dot award, which dates back to 1955, is a design competition held by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. There are prize categories for product design, communication design and design concepts.
The N9000, developed for sports cars and sporty coups, provides maximum traction on wet and dry roads, according to Nexen. Its lightning shape pattern design offers “excellent water drainage and grip on wet roads and it improves cornering stability at high speed. Also, four straight wide grooves upgrade drainage and anti-hydroplaning performance,” the tiremaker said, adding the maximum high performance tire also has drawn interest from amateur racers.
“I am very satisfied to say Nexen Tire’s design management is now globally recognized by winning this award,” Lee said. “Nexen will continue to make every effort on design management and quality management for product competitiveness in the global market.”
