With its latest steer axle radial, Michelin North America has laid out a challenge to all comers by guaranteeing 30% greater removal mileage than any competitor.
The new Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tire is also fuel efficient, as shown by its EPA SmartWay verification, MNA said.
MNA claims the new directional tread steer tire “is guaranteed to last at least 30% longer than the competition in long-haul applications. For complete details on the guarantee, visit the Michelin Americas Truck Tires website.”
If that doesn’t happen, according to the website and other MNA literature, “we’ll pay you twice the difference in cost between their tires and ours.”
But fleets and truckers will have to follow the guarantee rules: “Valid only for Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tires purchased before Dec. 31, 2011. Applicable to a maximum of 20 tires per ship-to location/customer. Valid for long-haul application only. Trucks must travel a minimum of 120,000 miles a year. You must assign a minimum of two similar trucks, operating in similar environments to the mileage challenge. Guarantee based on comparison between the competitor baseline tire and the Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tire; proof of purchase with date and purchase price necessary for both the competitor baseline tire and the Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tire; claim must sufficiently document removal mileage and tread depth of the competitor baseline tire and the Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tire. Guarantee will pay in the form of a credit for twice the difference of the purchase price between the competitor baseline tire and the Michelin XZA3+ Evertread steer tire. Credit will be issued and all documentation must be validated by a Michelin Sales Representative. All Michelin Limited Warranty exclusions still apply. See warranty for details. Michelin reserves the right to modify or discontinue this program at any time for any reason without prior notice. All claims must be made by Dec. 31, 2013. See your local Michelin dealer, your sales representative or go to michelintruck.com for more details.”
Still, MNA said the tire features some new technology that adds to treadlife and fuel efficiency, including its patent pending Dual Compound Tread, which allows tire designers to utilize multiple rubber compounds at different places in the tread. One compound controls tread stiffness and stress to reduce irregular wear, MNA said, while another aids fuel efficiency and keeps the tire’s operating temperatures low.
The new tire also comes with a three-retread limited warranty (when retreaded by an “authorized Michelin Retread Technologies Dealer”), and also features directional miniature siping in groove walls for traction, an enhanced shoulder rib to fight irregular wear, a full-width elastic protector ply, an enhanced innerliner and rectangular bead bundle.
The Michelin XZA3+ Evertread is now available in North America in four G-load range sizes: 11R22.5, 275/80R22.5, 11R24.5 and 275/80R24.5; as well as two H-load range sizes: 11R22.5 and 275/80R22.5.
