Police and medical officials have ordered an autopsy on a 45-year-old Prattville, Ala., man who rammed pickup into a tire store last week, refused onsite medical treatment and then died some 20 hours later.
Prattville officers were dispatched to Big 10 Tires in the city at 2 a.m. on Sept. 13, where they found a 2003 Ford F-150 that had "crashed through the wall of the store," causing "extensive damage to the building." Paramedics were sent to the scene, but the man reportedly refused medical treatment and returned to his home.
The city paramedics later responded to an emergency call from the man’s home, and rushed him to Prattville Baptist Hospital’s emergency center. He was later transferred to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, where he died at around 10:30 p.m.
Police are still trying to figure out why the man crashed into the store, owned by Pep Boys, and why he refused on-site attention.
