Goodyear Adds SwartWay Super Wides

Goodyear has introduced the G392 SSD drive and G394 SST trailer tires, super wides designed for long-haul and regional-haul applications that feature puncture sealing technology.Goodyear's G392 SSD

The new tires feature Goodyear’s Fuel Max Technology, and are the first in the industry to offer flat protection, thanks to Goodyear’s exclusive DuraSeal Technology, a gel-like innerliner material that instantly seals punctures of up to 1/4-inch in the repairable area of the tread.

“We feel our new super wide tires are game-changers in the segment,” said Donn Kramer, director of commercial tire marketing. “If a standard super wide tire hits a nail or other debris and goes flat, there is no limp-home capability, and in about 30% of the cases, the tire deflates to a level where it ruins a $450 wheel.

“With Goodyear’s DuraSeal Technology, our customers can now run confidently with super wides and reap the weight-saving benefits of the tires, while gaining excellent fuel economy and long miles to removal,” said Kramer.

The G392 SSD and G394 SST are both SmartWay-verified. “While our line of long-haul dual tires with Fuel Max Technology continues to deliver fuel economy improvements of up to 5% over traditional non-SmartWay-verified tires, there is a segment of the market that wants the weight savings of super wides,” said Kramer.

The G392 SSD with DuraSeal and Fuel Max also features a nine-rib design, with eight circumferential grooves that, according to the tiremaker, provide all-season traction in dry, wet and snowy conditions. The tire comes with a 25/32-inch tread depth for long initial tire life. The G392 SSD is available in load range “L” in a 445/50R22.5 size.

The G394 SST with DuraSeal and Fuel Max features a five-rib design with minimal blades, and tread compounding that optimizes fuel economy and removal mileage, Goodyear said. Its 12/32-inch tread depth balances fuel economy, weight and tread life, and optimized tread and mold design provides for a uniform footprint to fight irregular wear and noise. The G394 SST is available in load range “L” in a 445/50R22.5 size.

In addition, later this year Goodyear will offer matching retreads for both tires.
