A group of 250 volunteers planted 2,000 new trees adjacent to the plant, part of Yokohama’s global initiative to plant half a million trees by the year 2017. Thus far, some 53,000 trees have been planted worldwide as part of the company’s "Forever Forest" project.
The Salem event follows similar planting events at six Yokohama locations in Japan, and events at Yokohama Tire Philippines in August 2008; at Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co. in China in November 2008; and at Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Co. in Thailand in January. The next tree-planting event will take place at Yokohama’s Plant in Shinshiro, Japan next month. (Tire Review/Akron)
