USW workers at Goodyear’s Danville, Va., tire plant have rejected the tentative contract reached between the tiremaker and union.
Details of the vote were not immediately available.
USW Local 831, which represents union workers at the plant, issued a brief statement on its Web site: “The Tentative Agreement reached between the USW and Goodyear Tire and Rubber on Aug. 29, 2009 has been turned down by the membership of Local 831.”
Separately, news reports out of Kansas say that workers at Goodyear’s Topeka, Kan., plant have completed voting on the tentative four-year contract, but the union has not announced the results. Voting closed last evening, and results were to have been revealed today. But media reports from Topeka indicated that USW Local 307 has decided to seal the results until contract voting at all seven Goodyear plants has been completed.
