CTNA Partners With Fishing and Hunting Newspaper

(Akron/Tire Review) The General tire brand has been named the official tire sponsor of Western Outdoor News (WON) and co-sponsor of the 2006 WON Bass Tour, announced Continental Tire North America (CTNA).

The sponsorship is part of CTNA’s efforts to revitalize its General brand in the U.S., the tiremaker stated in a release. WON, published since 1953, is a California-based fishing and hunting weekly newspaper. The WON Bass Tour is a bass fishing tournament held in the western region of the U.S.

As a co-sponsor of the Bass Tour, the General brand will offer contingency awards – featuring Grabber AT2 and the Grabber HP and UHP tires – at all tournaments. The first-place winner will receive $500 and a truck or SUV outfitted with the tires.

“With 91% of WON Bass anglers owning pickup trucks or SUVs, the demographics of the WON Bass circuit match up perfectly with our target market,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for CTNA’s passenger and light truck business unit. “Our products run the entire gamut, from high-performance sport truck tires to aggressive off-road truck tires. It’s a strong lineup which fits right in with rigs driven to and from tournaments by WON Bass anglers.”
