The agreement, first established in 1999, includes key global commercial vehicle markets, the companies said.
The MTIS system automatically monitors and maintains air pressure in heavy-duty trailer tires, helping to decrease tire blowouts and reduce tire maintenance costs, according to the companies. The automatic tire inflation system uses compressed air from the trailer’s air system to inflate any tire that falls below a pre-set pressure while the trailer is moving.
PSI manufactures the system in San Antonio, Texas, and assists Meritor with customer support and service issues.
More than one of every 10 new trailers in North America are delivered today with MTIS, and the number of retrofit opportunities is expected to double this year, according to Barry Eckel, director of global sales and marketing for MTIS.
Tim Musgrave, president and CEO of PSI, said that new products are currently under development and will be launched over the next 12 months.
