Aftermarket business leaders are roughly twice as confident in the future of the automotive aftermarket over the next 12 months than they were regarding the economy in general, according to results of the Business Confidence Index for January 2011, prepared by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and Northwood University.
The first monthly index survey shows that 21% of AAIA member respondents were significantly more confident about doing business in the aftermarket over the next 12 months, while 50% were slightly more confident over the same period. Only 4% were significantly more confident in the economy over the next 12 months, with 54% slightly more confident about the economy over the same period.
The confidence index for the month was 42.1, which is on the high end of “slightly more confident.” A nine-point increase in the index will place it in the 51-100 range, which would indicate that leaders are “significantly more confident” in the aftermarket over the next 12 months.
The second installment of the survey will be sent to members this week. The deadline for having survey responses back is March 8. Results will be calculated monthly and reported in AAIA SmartBrief.
