Advantages of Steel Wheel Weights

Hennessy Industries’ wheel weight brand Bada has launched a campaign – “8 Is More than Enough” – to highlight the advantages of steel wheel weights over other materials.

“Our industry understands that lead wheel weights will eventually be phased out across the U.S., so naturally the next question is ‘what is the best alternative to lead?’” said Kevin Keefe, vice president of marketing for Hennessy Industries. “With this campaign, we relied on straightforward facts to tell the story of why steel wheel weights are a better choice than zinc wheel weights, the other emerging alternative to lead.”

The campaign highlights eight reasons that steel wheel weights should be used verses zinc weights. The reasons were drawn from independent third-party laboratory testing as well as already accepted industry data, Hennessy Industries said.

One key finding from the study is the weight variance found in zinc weights due to “porosity.” Of the zinc wheel weights tested, 30% were below accepted industry standard for weight accuracy, and some were as much as 20% below their stated weights, according to Hennessy.
