Titan Holds Job Fair for New Freeport Employees

Titan Tire is holding a three-day job fair in Freeport, Ill., this week as part of an effort to hire a significant number of new employees for its plant there, according to Greg Wood, human resource manager for Titan.

The need for new employees is due to increased demand for Titan products. Earlier this year, Titan offered jobs back to anyone who worked at the plant at one time since 2006. Some 40 people decided to rejoin the company.

Because all existing in-factory hiring lists have been exhausted, Titan will make a number of “off-the street” hires. This is the first time in about 15 years that the local plant has made any off-the-street hires, Wood said.

“We’ve exhausted all our recall lists so subsequently we need to go outside the facility to hire more employees,” Wood told local media. “I see this as a positive for us and the community. It shows that the work we put in to get ourselves in this position is paying off. Our goal is to continue our growth.”

Wood did not specify how many new employees will be hired, but said the number will be “substantial.”

The entry-level production jobs offer a starting pay of $13 an hour and up, with many positions paying in the $17 an hour range. The positions carry full benefits and overtime is available.
