Goodyear Produces 4 millionth RunOnFlat Tyre in Europe

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) This week marks the production of the four millionth RunOnFlat tyre produced by the Goodyear Dunlop group in Europe.

Goodyear RunOnFlat tyres are built at the company’s plant in Fulda, Germany, while Dunlop RunOnFlats are built in Hanau and Furstenwalde, Germany.

After a limited production between 2001 and 2003, more than three million tyres have been built in the past two years as an increasing number of drivers have recognised the benefits of having a tyre which can still perform safely for at least 80 kilometres after a puncture. Philippe Degeer, vice president of consumer tyres for Goodyear Dunlop Europe, said: “RunOnFlats are now starting to be recognized for the benefits they bring in terms of safety, convenience and security.”

“Research we have carried out shows that until recently more than 70% of European drivers were not aware of the benefits of RunOnflat technology. In the past year we have been working hard to convey the benefits to a wider public and the results are being reflected in the interest shown.”

The research shows that the main reason drivers buy RunOnFlats is the fear of blowouts at high speed and that 80 percent of them claim to have had at least one puncture in the past.

According to the company, the Goodyear Dunlop group has more than 55% of the European run-flat market. The group is currently working on at least 150 RunOnFlat projects with various car manufacturers.
