Conti SA Wins Environmental Award

Continental Tyre’s South African subsidiary has awarded an environmental distinction by the Institute of Waste Management, an organisation based in Eastern Cape province.

Continental Tyre SA won the inaugural Eastern Cape Clean Industry Award for the manufacturing sector on the merits of its “transparent and traceable environmental management system.”

In response to the announcement, Continental SA managing director Claudio Boezio said, “It‘s great to be recognised for our efforts with this award, and it‘s even better to know our efforts are reducing the harm our planet endures on a daily basis. We recognise that during the manufacturing of tyres, our activities, products and services can impact on both people and the environment. We design our processes and products with an emphasis on avoiding any negative consequences for the environment and our fellow humans.

“We do this by reducing the consumption of energy, water, raw materials and processing materials during the manufacturing process. We also conduct operational emergency management to avoid injury to persons and harm to property and the environment. We train, inform and motivate our employees to behave safely, and with concern for the environment. We also include our contracted partners, suppliers and customers in these activities.”

The IWMSA is a non-profit organisation that draws it membership from business and government at all levels. (Tyres & Accessories/Staffordshire, U.K.)
