Andretti Joins Driver’s Edge Instructors

Marco Andretti recently joined Driver’s Edge in Las Vegas at its final 2008 event as a guest instructor.

The grandson of Mario Andretti, son of Michael Andretti, and current IndyCar Series driver was joined by other well-known drivers, including: Firestone Indy Lights driver Arie Luyendyk, Jr.; Ian James, star of the Rolex Daytona Prototype Series; and Pierre Kleinubing, four-time SPEED Touring Car series champ.

The Las Vegas non-profit organization wrapped up this year’s season with its behind-the-wheel training for nearly 200 Las Vegas-area  young drivers ages 15 to 21.

“We are excited that Marco was able to participate in the recent Driver’s Edge event.
We hope this will continue to grow the excitement for the program and underscore the
importance of teaching young teens safe driving techniques,” said Phil Pacsi, vice
president of North American consumer tire marketing for Bridgestone Firestone North
American Tire. Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc. is the principal sponsor of
Driver’s Edge.

Driver’s Edge provides a free educational program aimed at teaching real life emergency avoidance and response techniques and overall driver safety. The youth program is taught with an “MTV flavor” by true driving professionals through a unique combination of behind-the-wheel and classroom experiences, according to Bridgestone.

During the event, Andretti and the Edge team of instructors gave behind-the-wheel instruction to the young attendees on skid control, collision avoidance techniques and panic braking skills – things that aren’t typically taught in traditional forms of driver’s education in America.
