Brembo Opens New Brake Plant, Announces New Iron Foundry in Mexico

Brembo SpA inaugurated its $36 million aluminum calipers plant on Oct. 20 in Escobedo, located in Nuevo Léon, Mexico.

Expected to increase Brembo’s presence in North America, the plant is one of the company’s more modern and cutting edge aluminum caliper plants and features state-of-the-art manufacturing processes that combine high efficiency with the latest technically integrated solutions, Brembo said.

The 377,000 square foot plant will produce 2 million aluminum calipers annually and add more than $100 million in sales a year, the company adds. Additionally, the facility will create about 500 new jobs.

The company also announced it will invest an additional $95 million to build a new foundry for cast iron discs located next door to the calipers plant.

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in a few weeks, and will be operational by the end of 2017, Brembo said. The facility will have a melting capacity of more than 100,000 tons per year and will cover an area of 269,000 square feet. Brembo also estimates the new foundry will employ about 200 people.

The new plant will produce cast iron discs to American, European and Asian original equipment manufacturers that have manufacturing facilities in Mexico.
