Conti Helping S.C. Flood Recovery

Continental AG has donated $100,000 and Continental Tire the Americas has given $15,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in recovery efforts following the recent flooding in South Carolina.

“It is incredibly important that we help each other during difficult circumstances,” said Jochen Etzel, CEO of Continental Tire the Americas. “The time and resources our employees have dedicated to helping one another during this time shows a great sense of pride in South Carolina and our Continental family.”

Continental has approximately 1,300 employees and three facilities in South Carolina. While none of the automotive supplier’s facilities were affected by direct damage, several of its employees were affected in the Sumter area, the company said.

The town of Sumter received 20 inches of rain in 48 hours – wreaking havoc on the city’s infrastructure, destroying homes and forcing schools and businesses to close for up to a week. The city was also placed under a Boil Water Advisory for several days as well as a nightly curfew.

Immediately following the flooding, employees from the Continental Tire the Americas’ headquarters, in Fort Mill, delivered more than 16,000 bottles of water to their colleagues at the Sumter facility.
