A new update to its software for the product will help a fleet’s truck and trailer configurations make better use of its commercial truck TPMS, according to Continental Tire the Americas.
Many truck fleets across North America practice a “drop and hook,” in which one power unit will connect to multiple trailers on a regular basis. With its Automatic Trailer Learning (ATL) software upgrade, fleets running ContiPressureCheck will be able to automatically add complete TPMS coverage for its trailers.
Continental said with the ATL upgrade, fleets need only install tire sensors in each trailer tire. When that trailer is mated to a tractor, the sensors are automatically identified and connected to the truck and the ContiPressureCheck system. No additional hardware is needed, Conti said.
The latest upgrade also adds a “test drive” function, which grades the reception quality to the tires on both the truck and the trailer, allowing the fleet to optimize the overall air pressure and temperature monitoring capability of the system before a tractor/trailer hits the road.
“ATL saves fleets precious time by providing the capability for a system-equipped truck to hookup to any trailer outfitted with only tire sensors,” said the tiremaker. “This new software upgrade also eliminates the need to program the truck to a new trailer, allowing the truck to immediately embark on its next delivery.”
