Michelin, USW Reach Tentative Agreement for BFG Workers

Michelin North America and the United Steelworkers have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract covering 2,400 workers at BFGoodrich facilities in Alabama and Indiana.

Michelin North America and the United Steelworkers (USW) have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract covering 2,400 workers at BFGoodrich facilities in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Fort Wayne, Ind.

The tiremaker and the union had been working since June on a new collective bargaining agreement. The previous contract expired last Saturday. The new agreement is scheduled to expire July 30, 2016.

"Our goal throughout the bargaining process has been to reach an agreement that ensures a solid future both for our members and their families," said USW Secretary-Treasurer Stan Johnson, who led the negotiations for the union, along with BFG coordinator Larry Jackson. "This agreement represents a step forward for USW members at BFGoodrich."

Specific details of the contract will be withheld until members are able to review and vote on it. Ratification votes are scheduled to take place by Aug. 9.

The USW also has reached a tentative agreement covering 8,500 Goodyear workers and 4,500 Bridgestone employees.
