China’s largest tiremaker, Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber, has become the country’s latest manufacturer to sign up with the Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA).
Its membership gives Hangzhou Zhongce access to the very latest technical and legislative regulations affecting the sale of tires within Europe.
“We are delighted to welcome Hangzhou Zhongce to ITMA,” commented Alfred Graham, president of ITMA. “In recent months, as the legislative burden for tiremakers and importers continues to increase, we’ve seen a number of additional manufacturers call upon our support. To have another, and particularly one so large, is a great reflection on the level of advice and insight provided by membership of ITMA.”
According to Tyres & Accessories, 11 out of the world’s 20 largest tire manufacturers are now members of ITMA, the only trade association in Europe to exclusively represent the interests of non-EU-based tire manufacturers. The ITMA was established more than 30 years ago when imported tire brands started to gain a significant share of the U.K. and mainland European replacement markets. The association now represents more than 30 tire brands.
“Europe remains an attractive market for non-EU-based tire manufacturers,” Graham added. “However, with the introduction of legislation and regulations such as the new labeling laws, it is essential that these are fully understood in a timely manner so that tire designs, production schedules and relevant marketing materials can be adapted accordingly. By working closely with ITMA and its other members, manufacturers can be assured that they stand the best possible chance of achieving this in the most cost effective way possible.”
As well as providing its members with regular bulletins and updates, ITMA also operates a technical working group that advises and assists all members on a wide range of technical issues. Members also meet regularly to discuss points of common interest. The association also is a founder member of the U.K.’s Tyre Industry Federation. (Tyres & Accessories)
