The ballots have long since been cast and the elections – national and local – have been decided. Despite all of the bile flinging, the world did not end on Nov. 7, our union persevered, and democracy prevailed.
Here in Ohio, where our heads and brains are still heavily bruised from all of the presidential attention and endless loop of painful TV commercials and let’s not forget the endlessly clogged roadways every time either candidate came to town we had some extra attention, as reporters from the Mother Country (Great Britain) came to witness the Great American Electalypse of 2012.
What a lesson…we got. The London Daily Mail sent photographers from coast-to-coast to capture a glimpse of the modern American election. Numerous photos were posted online at the Daily Mail website showing just how sometimes unexpectedly humble our system of government actually can be.
When you think “election” you think of polling places in school gyms or cafeterias, city halls, fire stations, even churches. The reality is far from that.
Captured by the Daily Mail photographers were images of actual voting booths sitting next to slot machines in a small Las Vegas casino; a polling place among the clutter of a private home’s garage in Corona, Calif.; a Reno, Nev., precinct polling place in a liquor store; another voting machine set up in a California diner; a voting machine in a private kitchen in Meridian, Okla.; a laundromat serves as a polling place in Chicago; another in a private greenhouse in Providence, R.I.; voting machines set up among aging video games in a Carthage, Tenn., arcade; a country club in White Lake, Mich., that also serves as a voting precinct; voting in a bowling alley in Philadelphia; and the image you see here:
A tire store in Murfreesboro, Tenn., that housed the local polling site.
God bless America wherever we practice democracy!

Speaking of the 2012 British Invasion, Ohio Tire and Automotive Association’s John Marshall and Executive Director Gordon Gough were interviewed by British Sky Broadcasting during election night.
BSkyB is one of the island’s largest cable broadcasters, and sent reporters to various points in the U.S. including Ohio to take in the voting action.
During the interview, Marshall and Gough addressed some of the key issues the automotive industry faces. “The automotive retail and wholesale industries are the life-line for many of Ohio’s businesses, and families. There are many key issues that need to be addressed over the next four years, and we can only hope that Ohio will vote for what will make this state more business-friendly,” said Marshall in an interview.
Well done, guys!
