TyreSafe Highlights Poor Condition of Tyre Pressure Equipment

Recent surveys by Kwik-Fit and Auto Express both found that around 40% of tyre inflation equipment at garage forecourts around the U.K. was not functioning correctly at any given time.

However the actual figure is potentially much higher. According to a poll conducted by TyreSafe, as many as 60% of motorists were unable to check their vehicle’s tyre pressure due to out of order air lines and equipment. This staggering statistic is, says TyreSafe, a concerning picture of the sub-standard condition of the services available to motorists at the nation’s petrol forecourts.

The tyre safety organisation comments that almost three quarters of all cars on the nation’s roads have tyres that are under-inflated, and there is little hope of any improvement if drivers do not have access to operational equipment. With petrol prices steadily increasing beyond the £1 per litre level, incorrect tyre pressures are costing motorists thousands of pounds every year in wasted fuel whilst also increasing the level of carbon emissions, and putting many lives at risk.

TyreSafe wishes to remind all garage forecourt owners to regularly check the condition of their tyre pressure airline equipment and to report any faults immediately. It is, the organisation adds, their responsibility to ensure the highest possible levels of safety for drivers. (Tyres & Accessories/Staffordshire, U.K.)
