The month-long strike, which involves plants run by Goodyear, Bridgestone, Continental and Dunlop, was supposed to end this past weekend, according to reports.
National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) spokesman Mziwakhe Hlangani said tiremakers were subjected to immense pressure from the vehicle manufacturers to end the strike.
NUMSA called all of its members at the tire plants to assemble for a presentation on the negotiations.
“NUMSA is of the view that it has made progress. It will discuss with its constituencies on Monday whether the current offer on the table does constitute a settlement,” union regional secretary Irvin Jim said.
The terms of the agreement include an 8% across-the-board wage increase, 8.5% for minimum salary employees, and 7.5% for each of the following two yars.
