Thieves entered a truck repair center in Brunswick, Ohio, and left with a tractor-trailer filled with more than $23,000 worth of tires, according to police reports.
An employee at the Brunswick commercial tire center noticed early in the morning on Nov. 29 that several trailers on the lot had damaged locks and equipment missing. In all, 135 retreaded tires and 75 truck tire casings were reported stolen, police said.
Police believe thieves loaded the tires onto the truck and drove off. The 2005 Freightliner was dropped off at the center for repairs and since the keys were still in the office, police believe the truck was hotwired, they said.
On Saturday police received a call from Gary, Ind., reporting that the tractor-trailer was found in a gas station, but the tires were gone.
Police are currently investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact the Brunswick Police Department at 330-225-9111.
