The manager of a Firestone Complete Auto Care store in Phoenix, Ariz., received quite a shock early Sunday morning when he discovered a vehicle had crashed through the shop’s brick wall and came to a stop inside the building.
General manager Chad Alexander said he received a call from his alarm company at about 2 a.m. When he reached the store, he discovered that the driver of an SUV had somehow lost control and the vehicle had slammed directly into the store, which is located at 12433 N. Cave Creek Road.
The building suffered severe structural damage tens of thousands of dollars, Alexander estimated.
The driver of the SUV had veered off N. Cave Creek Road and rammed directly into the tire store. The driver, who was seriously injured, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
“There were three vehicles in the shop. Luckily, they were toward the back. Two suffered minor surface damage. The other was completely fine just covered in a bunch of dust,” Alexander told local media.
The shop’s employees have been transferred temporarily to other stores, and Alexander said his business would take a huge loss in a tough economy.
Police are still looking into exactly what caused the driver to veer off the road.
