The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) said a final settlement with Goodyear was expected this week,
"The company has in turn agreed to absorb about 100 contract workers into its permanent staff complement, out of the total of 250 employees hired under labor brokerages,” the union said.
According to NUMSA the tiremakers were offering wage increases ranging from 8.5% for the lowest paid workers, 8% across-the-board and 7.5% for workers earning above the maximum level.
The strike impacted Goodyear, as well as Bridgestone, Continental and Dunlop.
