Missouri-based Purcell Tire and Service Center has acquired Phelps Tire, expanding its products and services to the commercial tire sector in the Pacific Northwest, making the dealership the third-largest independent commercial tire dealership in North America.
With the acquisition, Purcell tire will add Alaska to its footprint and expand its Washington presence. Phelps Tire was founded in 1947 by the grandfather of current company president, Jim Phelps, and operated five Washington locations (Renton, Seattle, Mt. Vernon, Everett, and Tacoma) and three Alaska locations (Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Wasilla).
“We are excited about the prospects that the Phelps expansion provides and the markets that it opens to our retreading and commercial footprint,” said Bob Purcell, owner of Purcell Tire and Service Center.
The acquisition merges two family businesses with a combined 149 years of experience in commercial, OTR, retail and retreading (Purcell Tire has been open 80 years and Phelps Tire operated for 69 years.)
Purcell Tire has expanded to nearly 80 locations, four retread plants and a fleet of trucks that provide pick-up and delivery service to 41 states, the tire dealer said. The tire dealer currently operates in Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Illinois, Texas, and Nevada.
