This good news, however, has been tempered with the announcement of the cutting of up to 20 jobs at the company’s Burton plant.
Carlisle employees returned to their normal hours on May 1 as production at the factory increased, and a statement released by Pirelli reads that “the Carlisle plant will return to contractual hours until the end of July subject to review of market requirements.” The statement continued that only one shutdown, from May 27 to May 31, was scheduled during this timeframe.
The Burton factory will also face a similar shutdown between May 26 and May 31. Furthermore, Pirelli has confirmed that a number of jobs it appears this figure may be as high as 20 will be axed at the plant. According to a Pirelli spokesperson, “following recent announcements it is now confirmed that there will be further actions by the company to match production levels to reflect the global tyre market situation.” (Tyres & Accessories/Staffordshire, U.K.)
