Cumbria police say that after a full and thorough investigation, they are satisfied no crime was committed in the unusual death of a worker at Pirelli’s Carlisle plant.
George Falder, 48, was found dead inside an autoclave, which can reach 150 degrees C (302 degrees F), on Sept. 30. An investigation was launched as the police were treating the death as "suspicious and unexplained." For example, police wondered how Falder ended up in a closed autoclave.
Police said Falder would have “died within seconds” from the extreme heat in the steam-operated autoclave.
Even as police said the circumstances surrounding Falder’s death remain unexplained, they declared that “no crime” took place. Cumbria police said they interviewed some 50 Pirelli employees.
