According to the latest ATMA statistics, year-to-date exports are 22% ahead of where they were this time last year.
The truck and bus, passenger car and OTR segments faired particularly well rising to 203,103 units (up 18%); 90,194 (up 185%); and 4,308 units (up 97%) respectively.
Total market production was also up. In October 2007 Indian manufacturers produced 7.06 million tyres, a 19% increase on the 5.9 million that were produced in the same period last year. As you might expect, the increases in exports are roughly proportional to increases in total production, however there are some exceptions to this. TBR tyre production grew to 1.088 million units (up 12%) in October; and PCR to 1.4 million units (up 21%). OTR tyre manufacturing, however, only increased 3% during the same period meaning that a greater proportion of the 10,729 units that were produced in were exported compared to October 2006.
