Girl Scouts, Firestone Partner ‘On The Road’

(Akron/Tire Review) The Girl Scout and Firestone Complete Auto Care Centers have teamed up for a new program to teach young girls to be competent, safe drivers.

The On the Road Program, targeting teenage girls ages 14 to 17, mixes hands-on activities to learn about automotive safety and maintenance, smart driving and careers in the automotive industry.

The program will reach Girl Scouts in some 40 councils this year through grants and Car Care Academies run by Trisha Hessinger, automotive education specialist and professional driver. The program will also reach girls around the globe through its On the Road book, online games and e-cards, and appearances at girl-focused tradeshows and events.

Firestone Complete Auto Care is also an official Diamond Sponsor of Girl Scouts’ 95th anniversary festivities to take place in June 2007.

Michelin sponsors WWII vets’ return to Normandy for D-Day 80th anniversary

WWII vets will participate in several parades, ceremonies and celebrations during their 10-day tour of the Normandy region.

Michelin North America has partnered with the Best Defense Foundation and Delta Air Lines to arrange for 60 World War II veterans to return to Normandy, France, for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The veterans, accompanied by volunteers from Michelin, Delta and Best Defense, will take a chartered flight on June 2. They will participate in several parades, ceremonies and celebrations during their 10-day tour of the Normandy region. June 6 marks the 80th anniversary of the largest seaborne invasion in history, beginning the liberation of France and ultimately leading to the end of the war in Europe.
