Falken Tire Corp. called its recent Ecorun partnership a rousing success.
The project’s social media-guided specially modified Honda Civic covered more than 2,000 miles and achieved an average of 60 mpg over its five-day venture, all on Falken Ziex ZE-914 Ecorun tires.
The Ecorun began on Aug. 19 and ran until the Aug. 24, was mapped out live via fans and enthusiasts who submitted ideas to the driving team for destinations through various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Falken said.
The vehicle was driven by the editors of Import Tuner magazine, which partnered with Falken on the project. The vehicle routed from Falken’s warehouse in Fontana, Calif., north through San Francisco, Eugene, Ore., and Portland, before turning south to Reno, Nev., and then back to Fontana.
“The report from the drivers was that these were long days behind the wheel, but they met a lot of wonderful people along the way. What was most satisfying to everyone was that the Ecorun Civic met the projected goal of 60 mpg on the flat highways, and 50-55 mpg on mountainous terrain, stated Andrew Hoit, vice president of marketing.
“The suspension and aero upgrades on the Civic, combined with the low rolling resistance and fuel efficiency of the Falken Ecorun ZE914 tire, all played their part in achieving those mileage numbers,” Hoit added.
