Police in East Greenbush, N.Y., are searching for a suspect who reportedly took hundreds of dollars Feb. 28 from a Grand Premier Tire location in the town.
The thief apparently was quite determined to enter the store, based on surveillance video that first shows the suspect, wearing a dark hoodie, looking around as he walks up to the side entrance of Grand Premier Tire. He peeks inside to make sure no one is around, then he tries to break in first using his back and when that doesn’t work, he attempts to kick in the door. When that attempt fails, he takes a bit of a breather and tries again. Once the man gained entrance, he went to the counter and stole the tip jar before fleeing.
The shop’s owner, Joseph Pupello, told local media the tip jar has been on the counter for about 10 years without incident, and at the time it contained several hundred dollars.
"These guys work real hard, so if they come up and when they’re cashing out they throw a couple bucks in the tip jar and at the end of the week you hand it out to the guys and it fills up quick sometimes," Pupello said. "It’s like robbing everyone here at once. There’s a lot of unhappy guys here."
