Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has achieved its first SmartWay verified commercial truck tire the Roadmaster RM180. The tire has been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of verified low rolling resistance tires, which help reduce fuel consumption, ultimately cutting costs and benefiting the environment, according to the company.
“We are pleased to have our first premium product named to the EPA’s SmartWay Program for low-rolling resistance,” said Bill Hoban, Cooper Tire’s national truck tire sales manager. “This achievement demonstrates Cooper’s ongoing commitment to producing high-tech truck tires that are more fuel efficient, thus helping to protect the environment.”
Cooper said the RM180 is an ideal steer tire for long haul applications. The tire’s tread pattern features a decoupling groove to provide even wear and a cool-running base compound and four-belt construction for long tread mileage, durability and retreadability. The RM180 also provides low-rolling resistance for improved fuel economy, the tiremaker said.
