Continental Tire the Americas is recalling more than 14,567 passenger tires after discovering potential contamination to the belt package. Impacted tires include size P275/55R20 111S CrossContact LX20 tires produced at the company’s Mt. Vernon, Ill., plant between May 3 and May 9, 2015.
This contamination may result in the lack of adhesion that could lead to partial or complete tread or belt loss.
Most of the affected tires were installed as OE on certain General Motors full size truck and SUV models, with some tires sold in the replacement market.
Continental will notify owners of affected vehicles and will make available replacement tires free of charge. Continental notified the NHTSA of its voluntary recall on Oct. 3, 2016 and has begun communication with its dealers and wholesalers.
Consumers seeking more information, including instructions for identifying recalled tires, locating participating dealers, or general inquiries can go to http://continentaltire.custhelp.com. Customers can also contact CTA customer relations at 1-888-799-2168.
General Motors customers can look up their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website, or can check the General Motors website, to see if their vehicle could be impacted by the recall.
