Under the proposal, ATC said it would buy out the 69-acre plant to further expand its OTR tire business. Built in 1944 by the U.S. government, the plant is Goodyear’s only OTR plant in North America.
Upon a successful acquisition, ATC would spend $200 million to modernize the plant, increase production capacity for all sizes of OTR tires by at least 20%, and create more job opportunities with better annual pay, the company said.
However, a Goodyear spokesperson stated the company has not received any communication from ATC.
"We are very pleased with the performance of our OTR business and continue to see opportunities for Goodyear in this business. We have not announced plans, or an intention, to sell any part of this business," the spokesperson said. (Tire Review/Akron)
