Anoka Man Accused of Stealing Thousands of Tires from Employer

An Anoka, Minn., man has been accused in Anoka County District Court of stealing more than a thousand tires worth thousands of dollars over a over a period of several years from the business where he worked.

The Anoka County Attorney’s Office has filed a felony theft charge against Walter Jess Anderson, 45.

According to the complaint, Lino Lakes Police Department received a report from Pomp’s Tire Service March 9, 2011 about ongoing thefts of tires from the business that began in 2007, totaling some 1,153 tires worth $239,290.

Then Feb. 6, 2012, a man contacted Pomp’s and stated that one of his drivers had allegedly purchased stolen tires from a Pomp’s employee named “Wally,” later identified as Anderson.

Anderson worked as a counter salesman for Pomp’s from 2007 through April 3, 2012.

The complaint alleges that Anderson admitted stealing the tires since 2007 and selling them to numerous people to make extra cash.

He denied stealing the number of tires alleged, but admitted to taking between $50,000-$60,000 worth of tires.

Officers followed up with the people identified as buyers and obtained receipts, copies of checks and leftover tires from the sales of the stolen items that allegedly corroborated the ongoing thefts from 2007 until April 2012.
