Tire, Rim Thieves Target N.C. Trucking Companies

Some $80,000 worth of tires and rims were stolen from two commercial truck dealers in Greensboro, N.C.: Triad Freightliner and Whites International.

Police in Greensboro, N.C., are investigating thefts of tires and rims from two separate trucking companies.

In all, Detectives said 60 commercial truck tires and wheels worth about $80,000 were stolen from Triad Freightliner and Whites International.

At Triad Freightliner, workers told police someone forced entry into the business lot and took with nearly two dozen tires and rims from multiple commercial carriers. Representatives from Whites International reported a similar forced entry. In that case, employees reported more than 40 wheels from several tractor-trailers were taken.

The estimated loss to each business exceeds $40,000. No suspect descriptions are available.

Greensboro police are encouraging manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks, ground transportation companies, and long-haul trucking businesses to take additional security measures to reduce their chances of being burglarized, and to be on the lookout for suspicious persons or activity in and around their property.
