Toyo Donates to Japanese Relief Efforts

Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. is donating 150 million Japanese yen ($1.9 Million) to assist in relief efforts in Japan. The tiremaker said 100 million yen will go to the Miyagi Prefecture and 50 million is designated for the Fukushima Prefecture.

"Toyo Tires Group has close and long-standing ties to the communities of both Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures, which have suffered devastating losses in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami," the company stated in a news release.

"Together with the surrounding communities, Toyo Tires Group’s manufacturing sites have also been adversely impacted by the earthquake and tsunami. However, we are making every effort toward an expeditious recovery. All of us at Toyo Tires Group hope that our financial contribution to these communities will assist the people of this region who have suffered alongside us in these difficult days, and help lay the foundation to rebuild the region."

Toyo facilities in the country include the Sendai factory (located in Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture); Fukushima Rubber Co. Ltd., a manufacturing subsidiary (in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture); Iwaki Factory of the Soflan Wiz Co. Ltd., another manufacturing subsidiary (in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture); as well as a number of branches and sales offices of Toyo Tire Japan and Toyo Chemical/Industrial Products Sales Corp., in the region.
