Michelin PRM Report Examines Key Performance Areas

The fourth edition of the Michelin Group’s Michelin Performance and Responsibility (PRM) report is out.

Focusing on the 2007-08 period, this new report is a summary of the progress the company has achieved in its ‘Michelin Performance and Responsibility’ sustainable development approach – an approach designed around the five stages of the tyre’s life: tyre design, raw materials and purchasing, tyre manufacturing, commercialisation of tyres and tyres in use, and end-of-life recovery.

This 80-page document details Michelin’s perspective on the issues of road mobility and the tyre industry before examining each stage of a tyre’s life and explaining the actions deployed and objectives achieved. Key features of the current reports are:

• A chart of the key areas of improvement in Michelin’s approach and a representation of the five stages of the tyre’s life.

• The progress made on the company’s new Energy Saver tyre ranges and the upcoming European and U.S. regulations establishing consumer information regarding the environmental performance of tyres.

• The environmental performance of Michelin’s sites with the progress made on its MEF (Michelin sites Environmental Footprint) indicator.

• A report on Michelin’s actions to help preserve ecosystems at its sites.

• The improvements achieved within the company’s specialty tyre lines.

• Road safety events, on and beyond tyres.

The new 2007-08 report also highlights the continued deployment of the Michelin group’s sustainable development approach in a number of continuous progress areas, including: Quality of work life at company sites (safety, ergonomics, quality of work environment); workplace diversity; community relations;  requirements toward suppliers; functional savings brought about by Michelin Fleet Solutions; progress in terms of end-of-life tyre recycling. The report is currently available in French at the company’s michelin.com website; an interactive English language version will soon be made available. (Tyres & Accessories/Staffordshire, U.K.)
