Amtel-Vredestein Begins Work on State-of-the-Art Russian Plant

(Akron/Tire Review) Amtel-Vredestein N.V. said it will invest another $124 million to expand its Voronezh, Russia, tire plant.

The Voronezh II project, previously announced, will see a state-of-the-art tire plant built on the grounds of Amtel-Vredestein’s existing Voronezh facility. The new plant will produce some 2.5 million Amtel and Vredestein branded tires annually, and could be expanded to 4.1 million tires.

According to this agreement, Amtel-Vredestein will invest $124 million into its new Voronezh-II production facilities. Within this project, state-of-the-art facilities will be built, which will produce 2.5 million tires annually, with a possibility for further expansion to 4.1 million tires per year. Production is set to start in September 2008.

The tiremaker just signed a $63 million deal with Siemens subsidiary, Lincas Export Services GmbH, to purchase equipment for the Voronezh II plant, including equipment from Harburg Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH (Germany), VMI (Holland) and Comerio Ercole (Italy) and Troester (Germany).

"We are very happy to announce this agreement which will make Voronezh II the most advanced tyre production in Russia, superior to many Western producers, and making our products more competitive to our international rivals," said Victor Tuluk, general director of the facility.
