Lawyer at it Again: Sues BFNAT

(Akron/Tire Review) Pasadena lawyer Joseph Lisoni has filed two new lawsuits against Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire (BFNAT), continuing his nearly four-year-old battle against the tiremaker.

The new lawsuits, filed in U.S. District Court in California, allege defects in BFNAT’s Firestone Firehawk, as well as previously recalled Firestone Wilderness and ATX lines. Lisoni is seeking the immediate recall of those tires.

Last week, BFNAT announced a secondary recall of the Wilderness and ATX lines, continuing recalls previously announced in August 2000 and October 2001. BFNAT said the secondary call back is focused on a small population of tires, primarily spare tires, that consumers may have overlooked during the prior recalls.

In his latest lawsuits, Lisoni also alleges past and present BFNAT executives knew of problems with the tires, and is seeking to have them prosecuted for perjury, illegal acts and violation of government regulations.

Lisoni has hounded BFNAT since August 2002 when he undertook a crusade against Firestone Steeltex tires. He has been rebuffed in court and by NHTSA in numerous attempts to force a nationwide recall of those tires.

Community makes McMahon’s Best-One stand out from the competition. The company was founded in 1969 by Pat McMahon, who bought out a local independent tire dealer in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, with the help of Paul Zurcher.

Pat built a strong foundation for the business, and today, his son, Bubba, who grew up in the tire industry, now owns it with Randy Geyer, a longtime employee. Bubba’s wife, Kim, is now president of McMahon’s Best-One, and together they are pushing the limits on what it means to be an independent tire dealer.
