The dealership, a semi-finalist in the 2007 Tire Review Top Shop Awards, was honored on May 15 during the Chamber’s 2008 Small Business Awards ceremony. Owner Anthony Blackman accepted the award on behalf of the company and its employees.
Atlantic Tire & Service was recognized for its extensive community service involvement, including donating tools to Cary Middle School’s shop class, and for providing free rides for cancer patients to their treatment centers as part of the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program. In addition, employees are encouraged to join community organizations such as the Rotary Club or Jaycees, and the company has supported numerous charities from Boy Scouts of America to Hospice of Wake County.
“Atlantic Tire & Service is very honored to receive this award,” said Blackman. “It’s because of the support from our customers that we’re able to give so much back to the community. My mother owned a craft store in Sanford and showed me by example how important it is to stay involved with the community.”
The company has been the recipient of several other awards, including the industry’s prestigious Blue Seal of Excellence Award (the first recipient of this award in Cary), the Cary Chamber’s Employer of the Year Award, the Morrisville Chamber’s Business of the Year Award, and a Maggy Award from Cary Magazine for Best Mechanic. Blackman won the Cary Chamber’s Citizen of the Year Award in 2006. (Tire Review/Akron)
