The new format will open in Laval tomorrow, creating 120 jobs. It will be the biggest Canadian Tire in the province, measuring 130,000 square feet in size – including 80,000 square feet of retail space for Canadian Tire store and a 14,000 square foot L’Equipeur.
A second integrated store will open in Pointe-aux-Trembles next week, said Mark Vandzura, Canadian Tire vice-president for Eastern Canada.
The new concept has been successful at two existing stores in Ontario and Nova Scotia because it bolsters traffic in both sections, and reduces operating costs, Vandzura said.
"This is a format that’s working exceptionally well for Canadian Tire," he said.
In 2001, Canadian Tire acquired Mark’s Work Wearhouse Ltd. which includes L’Équipeur in Quebec – for $116 million. (Tire Review/Akron)
