Finalists Picked for BFNAT Video Contest

The top 10 finalists have been chosen in the Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire’s 2008 Safety Scholars video contest.

The national contest invites 16- to 21-year-old drivers to create short auto safety-related videos, which are then posted for open voting by viewers. Since the 2008 contest opened, some 620 entries have been received, according to BFNAT.

The 10 finalists will now have their videos before a panel of judges who will score them on a number of criteria, including how the short videos compel viewers to be more safety-conscious, and how effectively and creatively they communicate their safety message.

In addition, the finalist videos are now posted at SafetyScholars.com for online voting through July 25. Votes by the general public will determine three grand prize winners, who will be announced Aug. 8.

The grand prize winners can have their videos broadcast as a public service commercial by BFNAT, and they will be awarded a $5,000 college scholarship and a trip to the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, where they will showcase their videos to automotive journalists from around the country. Each of the 10 finalists will also receive a new set of Bridgestone or Firestone tires. (Tire Review/Akron)
