Alabama Man Wins ATD Driver Rodeo

James Jones of Cullman, Ala., took top honors in American Tire Distributors 2008 Championship Truck Rodeo.

Held in Huntersville, N.C., the annual Truck Rodeo featured nine ATD drivers who qualified by winning their respective Regional Rodeo Championship, as well as the ‘Mini’ Rodeos held in each of ATD’s 78 distribution centers.

The annual ATD Truck Rodeo is comprised of a written test, pre-trip vehicle inspection, and a driving course which tests vehicle operation in parking, backing, maneuverability, and precision in obstacle-ridden events.

The nine finalists earned an all-expense paid trip for two to the Rodeo Championship in Charlotte and also received $500 cash, trophies, jackets, hats, and other various gifts.

As the winner, Jones earned $5,000 cash, two round-trip tickets plus accommodations for a weekend getaway, a “Champion” watch, and a custom jacket for his first place finish.

Second place went to Anthony Rios from Moorpark, Calif., who won $2,500; and third place went to Tim Cromartie of Jacksonville, Fla., who won $1,500.

Other regional winners included Derek Caudle, Burlington, N.C.; Daniel Charo, Albuquerque, N.M.; Brian Crutchfield, Amarillo, Texas; David Dowling, Little Rock, Ark.; Tim Morris, Baltimore, Md.; and Orlando West, Atlanta. (Tire Review/Akron)
